4EU+ information meeting at UW
25 listopada 2019

All members of the UW community are invited to take part in the 4EU+ information meeting, which will take place on 5th December in the Old Library building. Participants will find out about the possibilities for students, doctoral candidates, and employees.

The 4EU+ Alliance, with the University of Warsaw as its member, is among the consortia selected for funding in the first pilot ‘European Universities’ call for proposals, launched as part of the 2019 Erasmus+ programme. The European Commission announced the results in June this year. On 7th-8th November, in Brussels, the European University Initiative was officially launched. More information >>

The most important information regarding the 4EU+ Alliance, flagship programmes, and the European University Initiative will be presented during the meeting.

The event is open to everyone:

  • Students and doctoral candidates who want to find out more about education projects and research-based education within 4EU+,
  • UW employees who would like to work together with other 4EU+ universities in terms of education, research, and innovation.

The 4EU+ information meeting will take place on 5th December at 9:00-11:30 in the Old Library building (aula).

The idea of the European University, according to the European Commission, is to bring together a new generation of creative Europeans able to cooperate across languages, borders and disciplines to address societal challenges and skills shortages faced in Europe. European Universities are transnational alliances of higher education institutions from across the EU that share a long-term strategy and promote European values and identity.

Seminar CeNT 29.11.2019

The Centre of New Technologies invites to a seminar by

Paulina Kasperkiewicz-Wasilewska, PhD
Faculty of Chemistry, Wrocław University of Science and Technology

Title: New Methods For Imaging Serine Proteases Involved In Cell Death Induction

Date: November, 29th (Friday) 2019 at 12 p.m.

Venue: Lecture Hall 0142 (ground floor)

Host: Prof. Joanna Trylska

Abstract:

Growing interest in NK and CTLs in target killing has made it imperative to develop new tools to measure the early events in pathogen elimination and targeted cell death. So far selective and potent functional small chemical tools for granzymes had not been discovered and only antibody related techniques are used in Grzs investigation, however they label total protein amount and cannot distinguish between active and inactive form of enzyme.

To overcome these limitations, we have developed innovative Grzs chemical tools that can be used to find answers for important, questioned functions of Grzs, which still remain controversial.  These tools were used for imaging of Granzyme A and Granzyme B, enzymes involved in cell death induction, monitoring of their location and changes upon stimulation.

Seminar CeNT 22.11.2019
18 listopada 2019

The Centre of New Technologies invites to a seminar by

Prof. Yuji Sugita
Chief Scientist at RIKEN Research Center in Tokyo, Japan

Title: Free-energy landscapes of protein-ligand bindings along the positional and orientational ligand coordinates

Date: November, 22nd (Friday), 2019 at 12 p.m.

Venue: Centre of New Technologies, Banacha 2C,
Lecture Hall 1130  (1st floor)

Host: Prof. Joanna Trylska

Abstract:

Protein-ligand binding is a slow process in solution and in a living cell. In the current study, we focus on the process between the encounter complex state and the canonical binding pose. Using all-atom MD simulations with enhanced conformational sampling algorithms, we could simulate the binding and unbinding events about hundred times. This simulation is sufficient to describe the free-energy landscape of protein-ligand binding processes. We observed the landscapes along the position coordinates as well as those along the ligand orientation coordinates. The former is a funnel like shape, while the latter is a more rugged „fork-shape” landscape. Based on the landscapes, we discuss molecular mechanisms for protein-ligand binding in solution.

Space International Information Day & Brokerage Event
07 listopada 2019

On 13th-14th November the “Space International Information Day & Brokerage Event” will take place at the University of Warsaw. The aim of the event is to present the funding opportunities in Horizon 2020 Space and to provide first-hand information on the last Horizon 2020 Space Calls.

The “International Horizon 2020 Space Information Day and Brokerage Event” in Warsaw will be an opportunity to discuss with the authors of the Space Work Programme 2020 and get some important information concerning H2020 proposal writing.

The meeting is organised by the H2020 Space NCP Network – COSMOS2020plus, the National Contact Point for Research Programmes of the European Union in Poland and the University of Warsaw with the support of the European Commission.

There will also be a chance to take part in the international brokerage event, offering the possibility to conclude new international cooperation technology, business and research partnerships for the last SPACE Calls.

The “Space International Information Day & Brokerage Event” will take place on 13th-14th November in the Old Library building. The registration is open until 11th November.

Kick-off event of the European Universities Initiative
04 listopada 2019

On 7th-8th November representatives of 4EU+ Alliance and other consortia, which were selected for funding in the first pilot ‘European Universities’ call for proposals, will meet in Brussels to launch this initiative. In June the European Commission selected 17 European University alliances, which will obtain funding for their projects to become the ‘European Universities’ of the future.

The 4EU+ mission is to develop a barrier-free and continuously deepening cooperation in education, research and innovation within the Alliance. Through this collaboration and working in partnerships, the Alliance serves society to the highest level with our core values, e.g. academic and research freedom, collaboration in an interdisciplinary approach, integrity, creativity and openness, and internationalisation. The 4EU+ Alliance is among the consortia selected for funding in the first pilot ‘European Universities’ call for proposals, launched as part of the 2019 Erasmus+ programme. Out of 54 proposals submitted in response to the call, the European Commission selected 17 European University alliances, which will obtain funding for their projects to become the ‘European Universities’ of the future.

The official Erasmus+ “European Universities” kick-off event will start on 7th November in Brussels. Among attendants of the meeting there will be Rectors, Vice-Rectors and students representing universities from the selected consortia, as well as EU politicians responsible for the higher education area and Tibor Navracsics, EU Commissioner for Education, Culture, Youth and Sport.

The 4EU+ Alliance will be represented by Rectors or members of Steering Committee from the alliance’s universities, as well as students representatives.

The meeting will be divided into two parts. The aim of the first one is to bring together the 17 selected European Universities to discuss the way forward for their European Universities and for the European Universities Initiative as a whole. The attendants will talk about the support they need from their Member States and the European Commission. The session will include interactive world-café style discussions on the transformative power of the European Universities initiative and how to lead these changes.

The second part of the meeting will be concentrated on the information session on the second call for proposals on the European Universities initiative, followed by panel discussions on the transformative role of the European Universities initiative for higher education.

On 8th November there will be a meeting of the managers of pilot “European Universities” projects and representatives of administrative staff of the universities who will be responsible for managing the projects.
