UW in ARWU 2022

The results of the 2022 Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU) are out. This year, ShanghaiRanking Consultancy features the best 1,000 universities in the world. The University of Warsaw is ranked between 401 and 500.

The Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU), also called the Shanghai Ranking, is considered as one of the most prestigious university rankings in the world. It has been published since 2003. In the latest edition of the ranking, there are listed 11 best Polish universities. The University of Warsaw and the Jagiellonian University take the highest positions in this group. Both universities are ranked between 401-500.

The top position in the ranking is held by Harvard University as the best worldwide university. The further places are taken by Stanford University and Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT).

Universities are ranked by several indicators of academic or research performance, including alumni and staff winning Nobel Prizes and Fields Medals, highly cited researchers, papers published in “Nature” and “Science”, papers indexed in major citation indices of the Web of Science™: Science Citation Index Expanded™ and Social Sciences Citation Index™, and the per capita academic performance of an institution.

Intensive Polish language course for international students

The registration for the intensive Polish language course for foreign students at the UW is open now. The course attendees will acquire basic vocabulary and phrases to communicate efficiently not only at the university but also in a daily life.

Each year the Welcome Point of the University of Warsaw offers a 2-week intensive Polish language course for students from abroad. The classes are free of charge. The second round of registration via IRK is open till 16th August.

The classes can be attended by:

  • 2nd and 3rd year students of 1st cycle programme;
  • 4th and 5th year students of uniform Master studies;
  • students of 2nd cycle programme.

During 40 hours of classes the students are taught basic vocabulary and phrases that are both useful in everyday communication and helpful in academic procedures. The course also covers lectures on the Polish culture. Besides it is a splendid opportunity to meet people who came to study in Poland from various parts of the world.

The course starts on 19th September and lasts until the end of the month. The classes are held from Monday to Friday between 10:00 – 13:30, at the UW campus at Krakowskie Przedmieście 26/28. English is the language of instruction.

Intensive Polish Language Course’ is organised within the Integrated Development Programme at the University of Warsaw and funded by European Social Fund. The objective, pursuing at the University of Warsaw between 2018-2022, is to develop competence of students and employees as well as implement the instruments which upgrade the management process of the University of Warsaw.
