Q&A with Prof. Choińska-Mika
02 kwietnia 2020

Due to the challenging and exceptional situation, resulted from the COVID-19 outbreak, UW like other institutions in the country, had to change its operation. Education at UW is provided in a different form. Most of UW units introduced remote teaching. Prof. Jolanta Choińska-Mika, our Vice-rector for Student Affairs and Quality of Teaching, hosted today an online meeting, during which she was answering students’ and doctoral candidates’ questions about their education at UW.

More than 400 questions have been submitted via an online form. On 2nd April, Prof. Jolanta Choińska-Mika, the UW Vice-Rector for Student Affairs and Quality of Teaching held a Q&A session with over a thousand participants. We present a few most important issues, brought up by our students and doctoral candidates.

Academic year. Will the summer exam session take place according to the schedule or will the academic year be extended? Will students continue the semester with online classes instead of going to the classroom?

Online classes are conducted on the Campus e-learning platform and through other available online tools. All detailed information is available on the websites of individual faculties and units as well as doctoral schools. Since some of the classes, e.g. laboratories, cannot be carried out remotely, UW considers postponing the date of the summer exam session. The organizational matters regarding this academic year and possible changes to the entry admissions timeline, resulted by the extraordinary situation, are raised by Vice-Rector for Student Affairs and Quality of Teaching. Watch the video >>

The decision on whether UW will continue remote learning as of 14th will be made and published on the UW website next week.

Residence halls. Can students still stay in UW residence halls?

Yes, students are allowed to stay at UW residence halls. During the online meeting, Prof. Jolanta Choińska-Mika stressed that UW does not have any plans to change the functionality of residence halls.

As the Chief Sanitary Inspectorate published recommendations, encouraging students to leave their residence halls, many followed them. Now, some of the students are thinking of returning. The University of Warsaw made recommendations for students encouraging them to stay temporarily at their homes or alternate locations. See more >>

Dissertation defence/Exams. Can students and doctoral candidates defend their dissertations online?

Yes, it is possible. However, some conditions need to be fulfilled. One of them is the stability and the quality of the internet connection. It is also practicable to conduct online exams. Please contact your department or a particular lecturer directly to discuss it.

Please note that all questions, asked during the online meeting with Prof. Jolanta Choińska-Mika, will be translated into English and posted here.
